Assessment Timeline
Below is a timeline of the assessments that will be used to track your progress and understanding in this unit. The assessments are divided into three types: entry-level, formative, and summative. A few assessments can also be found at the bottom of this page.
The entry-level assessments are used to find out what you already know. You will complete an anticipation guide about your opinion of whether books are better than the movies they inspire, why one is better than the other, how similar they are, etc. You will also answer three quick write questions about the big ideas of this unit, and post your answer to one of the questions on our class wall online.
The formative assessments are used to track your progress through the unit and make sure you are understanding the material. You will complete a set of guided notes on my class lecture and complete an assignment where you rank the elements of textual meaning in the lecture from what you think is the most influential to the least influential element and explain your choices. During the research section of the unit, you will complete five document analysis sheets on five sources you find, identifying the author, purpose, techniques, etc. and also complete an essay map using your five sources, both of which will help prepare you for the final assessments in the unit.
The summative assessments are used to show that you've learned the material from this unit and apply it on your own. You will write an analytic essay on the elements of meaning and a second interpretation of a text you choose from those previously studied in class. You will also prepare a multimedia presentation to share your research and analysis with the class.
